Smooth emotional response: amygdalar neurovascular coupling drives stress encoding

Neurovascular coupling is a fundamental mechanism associated with neuronal activity, metabolic demands, and proper brain function. Here, Ruan et al. reports that vascular smooth muscle cells of the basolateral amygdala actively regulate emotional responses to stress via the NMDA receptor subunit GluN2D.
