Why microglial repair programs fade

Why spontaneous recovery eventually stalls after stroke remains unclear. Tsuyama and colleagues identify a ZFP384-dependent mechanism that terminates reparative microglial programs and show that preserving these injury-induced states prolongs endogenous brain repair and functional recovery after ischemic stroke.
