Cell replacement therapy holds great therapeutic promise towards restoring tissue homeostasis. However, aging-associated functional decay and neoplastic transformation following transplantation must be overcome before cell therapies can be effectively and safely implemented in the clinical settings1,2,3,4. This goal can theoretically be achieved by developing enhancement strategies towards endowing stem cells with more robust regenerative capacities and concomitantly, a reduced risk for tumorigenesis5,6.
