New targets for broad-spectrum vaccines are urgently needed to defend the variants of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). In a recent study in Cell ResearchPang et al. reported a novel variant-proof SARS-CoV-2 vaccine targeting a transient intermediate conformational status of the HR domains in the S2 subunit.
