A martini glass serves as a conceptual lens into human blastoid formation. Pluripotent stem cells on the left transition, under the influence of a single small molecule, DMSO, into a fluid-filled blastoid on the right. At the center, fruit-slice-like cellular cross-sections depict lysosome-like “seeds”, where DMSO enhances lysosomal acidification via V-ATPase-mediated proton transport in outer trophectoderm cells. This process drives the osmotic cascade underlying blastocyst cavitation. See page 475–498 by Samhan Alsolami et al. for details.
